Summary: The work involves responsibility for performing semi-skilled building and grounds maintenance, repair and cleaning related tasks and activities which may be performed indoors or outdoors under adverse working conditions. A good knowledge of a trade is not necessary because a Building and Grounds Maintenance Worker does not normally perform skilled journey-level work. Also performs manual labor and operates equipment related to the work. General instructions are received and work is performed under immediate or general supervision, depending upon the nature of the tasks and is led by a Production Supervisor. Also performs related work as required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Must meet or exceed company requirements for safety Must successfully complete all required safety/skills training. Performs semi-skilled building maintenance and may include repairing toilets, and patching or replacing sheetrock and tiles. Performs manual labor related to building and grounds maintenance and repair. Replace locks. Operates trucks, automobiles, air compressors, and other motorized equipment related to the work. Performs housekeeping and cleaning tasks Serves as general building worker performing a variety of basic tasks such as cleaning vents, screens, trash cans, walkways Replaces various kinds of light bulbs, normally at heights of twelve feet or less. Moves furniture and equipment. May occasionally transport and deliver supplies and other light items. Takes part in general grounds maintenance activities including but not limited to trimming shrubs, tending flower beds, and inspecting assigned work areas regularly to ensure proper standards are maintained. Occasionally performs hand (brush) painting. May perform minor repairs and maintenance procedures on equipment utilized in grounds keeping. Collect, weigh and segregate all metal scrap. Other duties may be assigned. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Basic understanding of computer-based machine controls. Must be required to obtain Thomas & Betts forklift license (if applicable). May be required to operate gas and/or electric forklift and scissor lift and use appropriate attachments (when necessary). Education and/or Experience: High school graduate or GED required. Previous manufacturing experience not required but desirable. Minimum of 3 years related experience and/or training with company equipment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Training and Certification Requirements This position may require some management of hazardous waste and therefor requires certification every three years in DOT/Hazardous Waste and RCRA training annually. Reasoning Ability: Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Deal with a problem involving a few concrete variables. Physical Demands: Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. The team member is required to stand, walk, sit, communicate and occasionally to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The team member must frequently lift up to 50 pounds. Occasionally required to climb to rooftop using ladder. Visual abilities required may include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment: The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The work will involve working in (general factory/production) work areas, toxic and/or non-toxic fumes, chemicals, airborne particles, vibration and heat. The noise level in the work environment may frequently be loud and hearing protection may be required based on the work area and noise level.
