Key Responsibilities Perform organizing and troubleshooting of a machining area. Perform diversified semi-skilled machining operations (including setup, adjust and operate wide variety of machining equipment) to generate a vast array of close tolerance parts, held to strict inspection requirements adhering to print specifications. Read and interpret fairly complicated drawings, charts, instructions, and diagrams. Essential Responsibilities Provide instruction/training to other employees (new employees, as well as experienced employees) to develop skills and to produce production parts to specifications. Check specifications to determine required tooling or fixturing to perform machining tasks. Check tools and equipment for correct operation. Capable of machining a variety of component parts using machine tools in the area. Set-up and operate all machines in their department. Work from complicated assembly drawings and specifications. Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures. Problems solve machining issues and interact with employees to drive continuous improvement Recognize defective or faulty workmanship and report issues to the quality department. Maintain production and quality standards and identify equipment malfunctions. Capable of performing a range of mechanical inspections for all operators in their area. Give work direction to machining employees. Work closely with Production Supervisors and leads on other shifts Move resources as required to meet customer due dates. Keep the work area and equipment clean and orderly (5s standard). Work in a safe manner and follow all safety rules and procedures to ensure personal safety as well as the safety of co-workers. Notify employees in engineering, production control, maintenance or sales when required to ensure efficient operation of the machining area. Utilize system reports to move materials and labor to areas of constraint. Work closely with other departments i.e. Engineering, Quality Control, Purchasing, Processing, Mechanical Engineering, etc. Help evaluate processes to improve product flow. Trouble-shoot problem machine issues. Complete all required paperwork accurately. Perform other duties as assigned by management Minimum Requirements High School Diploma or GED preferred. Four or more years formal trades training or equivalent experience. Knowledge of all current product lines. Minimum three years as a setup operator. Minimum of three years leading, training, assisting co-workers. Capable of interacting with all members of the organization, customer and suppliers. Knowledgeable of all aspects of tooling, set-up and operation of the specific area leading. Ability to interact with customers, vendors, etc in a positive manner. Must have good communication skills. Ability to perform to verbal instructions, as well as read/interpret all assembly documents including but not limited to: bills of material, blueprints, test information. Ability to use power and hand tools, gauges, testing devices and small machines to assemble tools and fixtures to specifications and test. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to train others. Work requires machining skills and techniques, plus experience and a basic knowledge of design and basic mechanical principles. Physical Requirements Lifting up to a maximum of 35 lbs. Frequent bending, stooping and reaching above and below waist. Frequent bending and lifting at the knees. Twisting frequently at waist and shoulder levels. Frequent reaching out in front of body. Capable of wearing safety glasses with permanent side shields at all times. Capable of wearing steel-toed safety shoes
