Plan and implement a budget that a budget that will ensure the profitability, sustainability and growth of the BU's including but not limited to: Strategic staffing; Sales and promotion; IT Projects; Strategic selection of equipment; Purchasing; Use of internal and external sources; Competitiveness. Design, implement and enforce procedures: To promote the services of the Company; Provide and accurate services according to the goals and criteria set by corporate management; Provide quality controlled analytical and professional services; Provide efficient and cost effective services without compromising the morale or safety of the company's staff; To optimize, improve and maintain facilities, equipment and processes; The safe operation of equipment, vehicles and tools as well as the use of chemicals and other dangerous goods; Environmental protection and due diligence including solid and liquid waste minimization, waste handing, storage and disposal; Other duties, including: Responsible for Health & Safety, Quality Assurance for Core Services; Monitor the activities of internal committees especially the Joint Health & Safety Committee; Provide support, guidance and knowledge to the President and other corporate managers; Enforce the corporate policies and procedures set out by the Finance, HR, QA, IT, and Marketing departments; Participate in activities which will increase the viability of the company and assist in the marketing of the corporation services; Conduct yearly performance evaluations for direct reports; Follow the Quality System as documented in the Quality Manual, Other related duties as assigned At least 10 years of experience in a laboratory environment, with at least 5 years acting in a supervisory role. Education: University Degree (Master degree or Ph.D considered an asset) or a college Diploma (preferably in Chemistry, Life Sciences, or Engineering). Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of most (if not all) laboratory performed methods; Experience working with instruments used in the laboratory (eg. IC, ICP/ms. GC/MS, GC/ECD, etc.); Experience developing a budget; Understanding of a profit/loss statement and balance sheet; Understanding of statistical analysis; Knowledge of corporate policies and services; Knowledge of ISO 17025 and its application within the laboratory. Training: Conflict resolution training is an asset; WHMIS and Safety training; Financial training; Internal auditor training is an asset. Skills: Computer literacy; Strong organizational skills; Attention to detail and accuracy; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Decision making skills; Management skills. Other Considerations: Bilingual (French/English) would be considered an asset; Evening and weekend shifts may occasionally be required.
