U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance Security Clearance Type: DoD Clearance: Secret Security Clearance Status: Active and existing security clearance required after day 1 Collins Aerospace is currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer to serve the GPS‑Based Positioning, Navigation and Timing Service (GPNTS) program team. In this role, you will take technical ownership of software development activities, drive integration efforts, and contribute directly to the architecture, reliability, and performance of mission‑critical systems used aboard U.S. Navy surface ships. You will mentor junior engineers, lead design discussions, and help shape engineering processes within an Agile, DevSecOps environment. This role will be an onsite located in the San Diego, CA facility Sign-on Bonus Eligible What You Will Do • You will lead the design, development, enhancement, and sustainment of core software components for the GPNTS navigation data system • You will perform advanced debugging, root‑cause analysis, and resolution of complex software issues • You will architect, implement, and optimize automated testing and CI/CD workflows • You will produce high‑quality technical documentation, interface definitions, and design review artifacts • You will lead and actively participate in Agile ceremonies, contributing to backlog refinement, sprint planning, and technical decision‑making • You will champion secure coding practices and DevSecOps methodologies, helping evolve program‑level workflows • You will coordinate closely with systems, hardware, cybersecurity, and test engineering teams to ensure robust integration across the entire shipboard system • You will provide technical mentorship, guidance, and code reviews for junior engineers • You will support configuration management, audits, major reviews, and external customer engagements What You Will Learn • Advanced real‑time and distributed system techniques in a mission‑critical defense environment • How to lead complex software architecture discussions and influence technical direction • Strategies for scaling automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and DevSecOps workflows across large programs • In‑depth understanding of PNT system performance, sensor integration, and navigation data fusion • How to collaborate with program managers, technical leads, and customer stakeholders in a high‑visibility environment • Methods for improving software reliability, safety, and maintainability in shipboard operational systems Qualifications You Must Have • Five or more years of professional software engineering experience, or an advanced degree with equivalent experience • Experience in one or more programming languages (C, C++, Python, or Java) • Experience with software development fundamentals, debugging, and version control systems • Experience working in Linux environments and with Linux command‑line tools • Experience participating in Agile development practices • Experience integrating navigation sensors, timing signals, distributed messaging frameworks, or mission‑critical data fusion • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
