Job description

Overview Every cloud region Microsoft operates, every workload we support, and every capacity commitment we make depends on data we trust and reasoning we can trace. Our team builds the intelligence and decision platform that Microsoft uses to plan and allocate compute capacity at global scale, combining a trusted data foundation, constraint-aware reasoning, and artificial intelligence that turns complex questions into confident decisions. We are looking for a Principal Product Manager to lead the user experience strategy for Microsoft's internal capacity intelligence and decision platform. You will define how planners, operators, and executives interact with data, workflows, and AI-powered experiences to make faster, more confident decisions. This role sits at the center of Microsoft's efforts to modernize capacity planning and management. You will partner closely with Product Management, Engineering, Data Science, and business stakeholders across Azure Engineering, Supply Chain, Data Center, Finance, Sales, and Capacity Operations to transform highly complex operational systems into intuitive and effective user experiences. Your work will define how users discover insights, navigate tradeoffs, understand recommendations, and take action across some of Microsoft's most critical planning and operational workflows. You will design modern, data-centric experiences for planners, operators, and executives whose decisions are some of the most consequential for the company. You will craft interfaces and experiences for internal users that rival the best data and decision platforms on the market. Success in this role requires a balance of product leadership, systems thinking, and user empathy. You will be expected to identify opportunities to simplify complex workflows, champion user-centered design, shape investments in AI-powered and data-driven experiences, and drive adoption across a diverse set of internal customers. Success means delivering experiences that help users find answers faster, understand decisions more clearly, and act with greater confidence while reducing the operational complexity behind the scenes. Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond. Responsibilities Set and communicate the experience direction for the capacity intelligence platform across data-rich user interfaces, decision-support workflows, and agentic experiences. Translate that direction quickly into scenarios, prototypes, priorities, and shipped outcomes. Serve as the product’s experience and design lead, applying taste and judgment to make clear, opinionated design decisions. Establish the interaction patterns, design principles, and quality standards that enable other product managers and engineering teams to deliver a coherent product. Own and continuously adapt the experience roadmap across multiple feature areas. Prioritize the highest-value user problems, manage dependencies, and make timely tradeoffs that move the product forward in days/weeks. Define and deliver agentic experiences that integrate with existing agents, agent harnesses, data platforms, and operational workflows while identifying opportunities for new capabilities. Establish agent behaviors, evaluation criteria, and boundaries between autonomous action and human judgment. Build and test ideas directly using coding and design-assistive agents to create functional prototypes, explore interaction models, and validate concepts with users. Work hands-on with engineering and data science to turn successful prototypes into production experiences. Develop deep empathy for internal users through direct engagement, observation, rapid research, scenario walkthroughs, usage data, and telemetry. Identify unmet needs and challenge traditional user interface paradigms to make complex decisions clear, efficient, and trustworthy. Define and use success measures for adoption, usability, trust, decision quality, and workflow effectiveness.
