Maintenance Assistant – JLL What this job involves: JLL is seeking a dependable and motivated Maintenance Assistant to support facility operations at Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN. In this role, you will help maintain a safe, clean, and fully functional campus environment for students, faculty, and staff by supporting building maintenance, preventive maintenance programs, event operations, waste management, and emergency response activities. You will work alongside an experienced facilities team while gaining hands-on exposure to building systems and maintenance operations. This position also offers a strong career development opportunity with training and mentorship designed to support advancement into General Maintenance Technician or Skilled Trades roles within JLL. What your day-to-day will look like: Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs involving plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and general building systems. Complete scheduled preventive maintenance tasks including inspections, filter changes, lubrication, and equipment adjustments. Respond to work orders and service requests in a timely manner while maintaining accurate records in the CMMS system. Support campus event setup and breakdown activities, including moving furniture, preparing event spaces, and assisting with basic audio-visual needs. Assist with waste management and recycling operations, including monitoring waste collection areas and supporting disposal procedures. Receive deliveries, organize maintenance inventory, and maintain clean and orderly storage and work areas. Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to after-hours, weekend, and holiday maintenance emergencies as needed. Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum 1–2 years of experience in building maintenance, facilities operations, or a related field. Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general building maintenance practices. Ability to safely operate hand and power tools and perform physically demanding tasks. Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, stand for extended periods, and respond to on-call emergencies within a reasonable timeframe. Preferred Qualifications: Technical certification or vocational training in building trades or facilities maintenance. Experience working in educational, institutional, or commercial facility environments. Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. Basic knowledge of building automation systems and preventive maintenance programs. Experience supporting waste management, recycling, or environmental health and safety initiatives. Previous experience participating in emergency response or on-call maintenance support. Location: Nashville, Tennessee Work Shift: This position follows a Monday through Friday schedule with staggered shifts based on business needs. Available shift options include: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM This position does not provide visa sponsorship. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
