Staff Engineers are expected to lead through technical contribution. You will operate as a trusted advisor for our key technologies, platforms and capability domains, creating clear and concise communications, code samples, blog posts and other material to share knowledge both inside and outside the organization. You will specialize in a particular subject area, but your input and impact will be sought and expected throughout the organization. About the Team: As a Staff Engineer in Capital One’s Developer Platforms organization, you will lead the technical vision for transforming the software delivery value chain and life cycle, with a specific focus on the enterprise Continuous Deployment (CD) charter - leveraging state of the art technology to accelerate time to market of high quality software. You will operate as a trusted domain advisor and resilient builder, driving innovation across organizational boundaries to define the future of delivering quality software, at scale and speed in a regulated ecosystem Responsibilities Architectural Vision & Strategy: Steward the technical strategy for the software delivery ecosystem (serving thousands of developers) focusing on continuous deployment and defining the technical vision for a modern, frictionless software delivery value chain. Transform How We Work and Deliver Software with AL/ML enablement: Lead the transformation of the software delivery value chain, powered by AI/ML capabilities intelligent automation, predictive testing, deployment risk assessment and operations Platform Leadership: Lead the architectural vision, abstracting away complexity, and driving the creation of "paved roads" that allow teams to move fast. Hands-on Contribution: Maintain a hands-on programming presence to prototype complex deployment architectures, validate architectural decisions, and build core foundational systems. Enterprise Alignment: Drive large-scale technical transformation, and ensuring consistency of solution architectures across complex enterprise domains for compliance, adoption, and value delivery. Partnership & Influence: As a technical leader in a horizontal enterprise organization, partner with engineering and business leaders the verticalm Lines of Business to accelerate immediate improvements, define standards for software flow from commit to production, and serve as a subject matter expert for the enterprise. Technical Mentorship & Culture: Grow technical leaders by mentoring engineers, fostering a culture of engineering excellence, and actively recruiting talent while championing an inclusive environment. Risk & Measurement: Define metrics to measure and articulate company progress and work closely with key stakeholders such as internal risk partners and federal regulators. Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree At least 7 years of experience in software engineering At least 5 years of experience with public cloud technologies Preferred Qualifications Masters’ Degree Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics Experience leading technical strategy for large-scale engineering organizations, with measurable improvements to developer productivity or delivery metrics Ability to build consensus and drive adoption of new technical standards across diverse engineering teams without relying on authority 10+ years of experience in software engineering or solution architecture 7+ years experience designing and building enterprise platform solutions 5+ years of experience with Agile software development 4+ years experience with AWS 3+ years of experience defining software design, architecture and engineering practices AWS Certifications Capital One will consider sponsoring a new qualified applicant for employment authorization for this position. The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
