The Thornton Tomasetti Construction Engineering Practice leverages our core Structural Engineering expertise to meet the engineering needs of our contractor. We provide contractor support engineering, tower crane engineering, skip hoist engineering, shoring and reshoring design, excavation and earth retention engineering, connection design, erection engineering, contractor support engineering. We also partner with contractors and sub-contractors to provide value engineering ideas and perform structural design on design-build projects. Your Role As a Structural Engineer in our Construction Engineering Practice, you will contribute to the design of temporary works, steel connections, and construction systems that bring complex structures to life. You’ll work on real-world engineering challenges where sequencing, constructability, and field constraints matter as much as analysis. You’ll contribute to small and mid-sized assignments while developing foundational skills in sequencing, stability, constructability, and erection engineering. With support from your team, you’ll work in a collaborative environment ideal for engineers eager to grow their technical and practical expertise. What You’ll Do Apply engineering principles to design temporary structures and construction systems, including shoring, bracing, and lifting plans. Support the analysis and design of structural steel connections, developing an understanding of connection behavior, detailing, and fabrication constraints, including connections ranging from simple shear connections to complex, multi-member nodes with intricate load paths. Prepare calculations, drawings, and models within a BIM environment. Collaborate with contractors and fabricators to ensure solutions are practical, efficient, and aligned with field conditions. Communicate clearly and professionally with teammates and project partners while learning to navigate real-world construction challenges. What You’ll Bring Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; Master’s degree preferred. Familiarity with tools such as ETABS, SAP2000, Tekla, Revit, or AutoCAD is a plus. Strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and eagerness to learn and grow through feedback. Compensation The rate for this position generally is $77,000 - $90,000 annually. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the New York Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful New York applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in New York or perform the position from New York. Similar positions located outside of New York will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by New York Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee’s pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
