About the Role We’re looking for a Senior/Staff electrical and firmware engineer who designs the board and writes the firmware for connected consumer and enterprise devices, including tablets, POS systems, peripherals, and emerging robotics applications. In this role, you will take connected devices from ambiguous user or business needs through system architecture, rapid prototyping, board design, firmware implementation, bring-up, field deployment, and production transition. The ideal candidate has a passion for building and shipping reliable hardware at scale and thrives in an environment that demands technical depth and high-quality execution across multiple concurrent programs. You’re excited about this opportunity because you will… Own connected devices end to end, including: • Own connected devices from an ambiguous product need through field deployment. • Work across the hardware and firmware boundary instead of handing work between specialists. • Explore uncertain product ideas through rapid prototypes and experiments. • Make consequential tradeoffs on a small, senior team with direct exposure to users and field behavior. Key Responsibilities • Translate user and business needs into an integrated electrical and firmware architecture. • Design compute-based, mixed-signal boards incorporating processors, power systems, sensors, wireless connectivity, displays, and other peripherals. • Develop embedded firmware, selecting bare metal, FreeRTOS, embedded Linux, or Android based on product needs. • Lead board bring-up, validation, and troubleshooting using lab tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, etc.). • Prototype with new sensors and run experiments to determine whether useful, reliable signals can be extracted. • Own the full lifecycle of electrical hardware from concept, schematic capture, layout review, through bring-up, validation, certification, and production handoff. • Collaborate with mechanical, software, product, and operations partners while making tradeoffs among speed, reliability, cost, manufacturability, and user experience. • Contribute across multiple programs — including merchant-facing hardware and emerging automation or robotics efforts — as business needs evolve. We're excited about you because... Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. • 8+ years of hands-on product-development experience spanning electrical hardware and embedded firmware. • You have taken customer-facing or field-deployed hardware from early concept through production, with experience scaling designs beyond initial deployments. • You have personally designed a board and written its production firmware on the same product. This is the core requirement: genuine dual capability, not adjacency to it. • You have hands-on depth in compute-based board design, embedded C/C++, board bring-up, and hardware debugging. • You can independently develop a system architecture from incomplete requirements. • You have sufficient experience across power, wireless, sensors, and interfaces to lead the whole electrical system. • Must be comfortable regularly exercising discretion and independent judgment in performing job duties, including evaluating options, making informed decisions, and determining appropriate courses of action within the scope of assigned responsibilities. Preferred Qualifications • Experience developing tablets, POS systems, or other connected consumer/enterprise devices. • Experience with regulatory compliance and certification processes (FCC, CE, etc.). • Exposure to electromechanical or robotics systems. • You’ve shipped hardware at scale in customer-facing products. • You are an engineer in your personal life and have the projects to prove it. • Have worked with in-house and contract manufacturing teams. • Thrive in high-integrity, fast-paced, high-ownership environments and care deeply about craftsmanship. • Live and breathe extreme ownership. Base salary is localized according to an employee’s work location. Ranges are market-dependent and may be modified in the future.
