Position Overview Citi is looking for a Director of Applications Development to lead the Customer Management domain within the Banking Operations organization, a function at the heart of Citi's customer management technology across Retail Banking, Wealth Technology and Mortgage. In this role, you will direct a team of engineering professionals, own a portfolio of technology investments, and shape the architectural direction of platforms that millions of customers depend on. This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced technology executive ready to drive business growth, operational excellence, and digital transformation at scale within a global financial institution. The ideal candidate is a proven leader who excels at building, mentoring, and unifying teams of managers and engineers . You are not just a leader, but a master craftsman who understands the intricate connections between customer demographics, client onboarding, CRM, Advisor tools, and the data transformations that powers them all. Critically, this role requires a hands-on practitioner with proven experience in designing and building enterprise-scale banking and wealth management systems, and who is an active AI practitioner, well-versed in using AI to augment the software development lifecycle. Responsibilities Lead and develop a high-performing engineering organization of professionals across multiple technical teams, setting clear direction on roles, accountability structures, and performance standards to maximize delivery effectiveness. Own the architectural vision for the Customer Management domain, overseeing the design and evolution of systems spanning SOR platforms, Salesforce integrations, and Next-Generation Architecture built on Angular, Microservices, and Artificial Intelligence. Manage a complex portfolio of 50+ active technology investments, balancing competing priorities across Retail Banking, Wealth Technology and Mortgage business lines to ensure on-time, high-quality delivery. Provide executive oversight for a large portfolio of applications, including franchise-critical System of records and SaaS platforms , ensuring stability, compliance, govern safety & soundness and continuous improvement. Oversee large-scale strategic programs, such as infrastructure migrations to public cloud and major customer data conversions across LOBs and technology tool migrations leveraging AI tools. Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence and build consensus with senior executives, peers, and engineers across technology organizations. Establish and govern technology delivery standards, ensuring all teams maintain current documentation, follow approved procedures, and operate within Citi's policy and control frameworks. Partner with senior business and technology stakeholders across multiple lines of business to align engineering priorities with strategic objectives, presenting regular program reviews and progress updates to executive leadership. Oversee change management processes for new and revised systems, ensuring appropriate controls, documentation, and approvals are in place for all implementations, including regulatory reporting changes. Manage disaster recovery planning across the portfolio, overseeing testing cycles and approving permit-to-operate status for new applications entering production. Assess technology and delivery risk across the organization, escalating issues with transparency and implementing corrective measures that protect the firm's operational integrity and client commitments. Required Qualifications & Skills 15 or more years of experience in technology delivery or applications development within a large-scale, complex organization. 8 to 10 or more years of direct people management experience, including leading senior engineering managers and managing multi-team organizations through performance cycles, hiring, and organizational development. Demonstrated ability to manage large engineering teams and multi-investment technology portfolios with accountability for quality, budget, and strategic outcomes.
