In this role, you will bridge the gap between development and production, serving as the primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Microsoft Exchange across multiple isolated, high-security networks. You will architect, test, and validate configurations in a dedicated laboratory environment, and directly execute the strategic planning, rollout, and lifecycle maintenance across operational production environments. This role requires a unique balance of rigorous integration lab testing, high-impact Tier 3 escalation support, and strategic engineering planning. Additionally, you will act as a critical troubleshooting liaison for our enterprise users accessing Department of War cloud tenants ( DOW365-Joint and DOW365-SEC ), collaborating directly with external agency technicians to diagnose and isolate complex access issues impacting our workforce. You will also mentor lower-tier administrators to ensure maximum operational uptime. HOW A SENIOR EXCHANGE INTEGRATION ENGINEER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT: Duties and Responsibilities • End-to-End Exchange Architecture: Lead the strategic planning, architectural design, building, and deployment of Microsoft Exchange Server infrastructure in both integration labs and active production environments.Tier 3 Escalation Support: Serve as the ultimate escalation point for complex messaging and collaboration failures in production; perform deep-dive root cause analysis on highly classified networks.Patch Compliance & IAVA Testing: Conduct Information Assurance Vulnerability Alert (IAVA) testing on Exchange and System Center suites in the lab to validate that security patches do not impede production functionality before deployment.Cross-Domain Mail Flow: Maintain, configure, and optimize end-to-end mail flow across separated networks connected via specialized Email Guards; troubleshoot live operational routing anomalies.Automation & Monitoring: Write, maintain, and execute advanced automation scripts utilizing standard PowerShell and Exchange management cmdlets to automate production monitoring, health checks, and simulated mail flow.Workforce Mentorship & Documentation: Author and maintain comprehensive standard operating procedures (SOPs), deployment guides, and knowledge-base articles; provide technical training and guidance to Tier 1 and Tier 2 system administrators.DOW365 & DISA Troubleshooting Liaison: Assist enterprise users with complex DOW365-Joint and DOW365-SEC access issues. Gather technical data and collaborate directly with Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) technicians to isolate, reproduce, and determine the scope of cloud-tenant anomalies impacting our local workforce (Note: Cloud tenant administration is managed externally).Infrastructure Integration: Configure and manage essential infrastructure dependencies required for production Exchange operations, including Active Directory (AD), Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), Group Policies, and Windows Server environments.WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED: Basic Qualifications • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education, technical training, and military/work experience).Experience: Minimum of 5–8 years of direct experience with Microsoft Exchange Server engineering, Windows Server administration, and enterprise-level production support.Security Clearance: Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance is required. • U.S. Citizenship: Required due to the nature of the classified work environment.Required Skills & Technical Competencies • Enterprise Messaging: Deep technical expertise in Microsoft Exchange Server architecture, database availability groups (DAG), transport pipelines, and client access protocols in large-scale production environments.Tier 3 Troubleshooting: Advanced diagnostics capability for complex system integration, identity management, and cross-domain communication failures.Directory & Security Infrastructure: Strong proficiency with Active Directory (identity management, schema extensions, replication), PKI (certificate lifecycle, encryption, signing), and Windows Server operating systems.Advanced Scripting: Mastery of PowerShell engineering, specifically utilizing Exchange management cmdlets and legacy cmdlets to build test scripts and custom monitoring frameworks.Technical Writing: Demonstrated experience creating clear deployment, migration, diagrams, and troubleshooting documentation for down-stream operations teams.Cloud-Liaison Capabilities: Strong analytical skills to diagnose client-side connectivity or authentication issues with Microsoft 365 / DOD365 enclaves, coupled with the ability to clearly articulate technical symptoms to external DISA support teams.Preferred Certifications & Experience • Advanced Exchange Engineering: Proven track record of executing full-lifecycle Microsoft Exchange upgrades, schema updates, migrations, and complex disaster recovery procedures.Messaging Certifications: Legacy Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE): Productivity (Messaging focus) or equivalent modern role-based Microsoft Exchange specializations.Performance Tuning: Direct experience with database health management, optimization of index structures, storage allocation, and transaction log troubleshooting for h
