Job description
About the job SOFTWARE ENGINEER INTERNSHIP / FELLOWSHIP — SIE Wellness (Remote) SIE Wellness is building an AI-powered healthcare platform designed to help primary care providers make sense of fragmented health information before a patient enters the exam room. By moving critical information gathering and synthesis upstream, our platform gives providers greater clarity and context before appointments while supporting more informed, efficient, and patient-centered care. We're looking for a Software Engineer Intern / Fellow to join our founding team and help build the product from the ground up. This is not a traditional internship where you'll simply observe an engineering team or work through predefined assignments. You'll take ownership of meaningful parts of the product, build production-level technology that directly contributes to the platform, and work alongside our founding team on the architecture, features, and technical decisions shaping the company at an early and formative stage. WHAT YOU'LL Do Take ownership of features and technical workstreams from concept through implementation Work directly with the founding team to design, build, test, and deploy core functionality across our patient- and provider-facing products Contribute to architecture, technical design, and product decisions rather than simply executing predefined tickets Help develop our AI-powered health information intake, structuring, and pre-visit summarization capabilities Build and integrate APIs, data workflows, backend services, and frontend functionality Help build and maintain systems with HIPAA compliance, data privacy, security, and responsible handling of protected health information (PHI) incorporated into technical design and development Contribute to secure data architecture, authentication, access controls, and other safeguards appropriate for healthcare applications Rapidly prototype and evaluate new ideas, then help turn successful concepts into reliable product features Identify technical challenges, propose solutions, and take responsibility for moving work forward See your contributions become part of a product designed for real-world healthcare use WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field Strong software development fundamentals demonstrated through coursework, internships, research, professional experience, or personal projects Comfortable taking real ownership and accountability for assigned areas of the product Able to work through ambiguity and independently move problems toward solutions Curious, resourceful, collaborative, and willing to contribute beyond a narrowly defined role Genuine interest in healthcare, AI, healthtech, or building technology with meaningful real-world applications Available at least 15 hours per week on a flexible, remote basis Prior internship experience is a plus, but a strong portfolio, technical project, open-source contribution, or demonstrated ability to build can be equally valuable — a GitHub profile or link to relevant project work is welcome and encouraged when you apply. THE DETAILS Remote and flexible — minimum 15 hours/week Structured as an equity-based fellowship/internship Opportunity for contract/project-based compensation as applicable May qualify for academic credit depending on your institution; we're happy to work with eligible university programs Direct and ongoing access to the founding team Small-team environment with meaningful ownership, autonomy, and responsibility Opportunity to grow alongside the company as the product and engineering organization expand Visa Sponsorship is not available for this role SKILLS & EXPERIENCE We're looking for candidates with experience or demonstrated ability in areas including, but not limited to: Python TypeScript / JavaScript React Node.js PostgreSQL and relational databases REST APIs and API integrations AWS or other cloud platforms Docker and containerization Git, GitHub, and collaborative development workflows CI/CD and modern software development practices LLM/AI integrations, prompt pipelines, or structured AI outputs Backend and/or full-stack application development Data modeling and database design Security, authentication, and access-control principles HIPAA compliance and healthcare data privacy/security practices Familiarity with handling PHI and designing secure healthcare applications is a plus You do not need experience with every technology listed above. We care about strong technical fundamentals, demonstrated ability to build, and the ability to learn quickly. WHY JOIN This is a ground-floor opportunity to help build a healthcare technology company while it is still taking shape. You'll gain hands-on experience across software engineering, AI-enabled product development, architecture, healthcare technology, and early-stage product strategy while working directly with the founding team.
