Job Description Quality Engineer- Toledo, OH Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to our Toledo location. The Role: The Quality Engineer at Toledo Transmission is responsible for driving built-in quality in manufacturing operations, supporting current production and new/updated product launches. This role partners closely with operations, engineering, and suppliers to prevent defects, react quickly to issues, and continuously improve quality performance for our customers. What You'll Do (Responsibilities): Lead day-to-day quality support for production, including response to quality concerns, problem solving, and implementation of robust corrective actions. Monitor and analyze key quality metrics (e.g., PPM/IPPM, FTQ, CPV, customer feedback) to identify trends, prioritize issues, and verify effectiveness of actions. Facilitate structured problem-solving activities (e.g., 5-Why, fishbone, PPS/8D) and ensure containment, root cause, and systemic corrective actions are executed and documented. Partner with manufacturing, maintenance, and engineering to drive built-in quality (BIQ) practices, error-proofing, standardized work, and layered process audits. Support launch and change management activities (e.g., PPAP, run-at-rate, trials) to ensure quality requirements are defined, validated, and sustained in production. Collaborate with suppliers and SQE to address incoming material issues, define containment, and implement durable corrective actions. Support control plan development and maintenance, including reaction plans for key characteristics and special process controls. Lead or support internal and external quality investigations related to customer concerns, warranty, and field issues; develop and implement improvement plans. Maintain quality documentation and records in accordance with established QMS and regulatory requirements. Champion a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within assigned areas. Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications): Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience. Relevant experience in quality, manufacturing, or process engineering within an industrial or automotive environment. Demonstrated experience with structured problem-solving methods (e.g., 5-Why, 8D/PPS) and effective corrective action implementation. Working knowledge of core quality tools such as control plans, FMEA, MSA, and SPC. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical standards. Strong analytical skills with the ability to work with data, identify trends, and develop data-driven recommendations. Proven ability to collaborate and influence across functions (operations, engineering, maintenance, suppliers). Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present findings and drive alignment. Self-directed, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)​ Experience with transmission, powertrain, or similarly complex assemblies and manufacturing processes. Hands-on experience with launch, PPAP, APQP, and change management activities. Prior involvement with built-in quality systems, layered process audits, and error-proofing design. Familiarity with customer-specific quality requirements and OEM expectations. Proficiency with quality and data analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, Power BI, or similar). Work Environment This is an on-site role at Toledo Transmission supporting manufacturing operations. Flexibility is required to respond to quality issues and key activities in alignment with plant needs. GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
