Come make an impact every day at Zebra. What We're Looking For: The Software Engineer I analyzes, designs, develops, and maintains software solutions for the organization’s products and systems. Collaborates on system integrations across software, firmware, and hardware to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and program consistency. Develops, validates, and tests software structures, automated tooling, user documentation, and core functionality. Work is reviewed for accuracy and adherence to established processes and guidelines. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Completes all phases of software engineering design projects, including coding, debugging, testing, and deployment Collaborates with immediate and cross-functional team members to establish requirements, participate in code reviews, and build productive working relationships System Integration & Optimization: Serves as a key link between hardware and software, ensuring firmware and on-device software interact seamlessly with target hardware through data-driven performance analysis and feedback Intelligent Root Cause Analysis: Develops automated scripts, data analysis workflows, and tools to identify system performance anomalies and accelerate root-cause analysis on complex integration issues AI Tooling & Methodology: Actively explores, builds, and adopts modern AI-assisted development tools and machine learning methodologies to enhance engineering workflows and data analysis Conducts analysis of processes and systems, interpreting results and recommending potential solutions for software and system improvements Contributes to the development and testing of software solutions for various products, ensuring they meet quality, performance, and adherence standards Creates and maintains project documentation, including source code comments, design specifications, and test results Exercises sound judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate actions for problem-solving and solution delivery Stays up to date with emerging technologies, AI/ML tools, and software engineering methodologies, applying them to projects as needed. This position requires hybrid work (3 days/week in office) in the Holtsville, NY office. This position is expected to start in January 2027. Required Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field Relevant experience (academic projects, internships or industry experience) in software development or a related field Equivalency: Equivalent practical work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree Preferred Qualifications: Successful completion of a Zebra Technologies Internship Hands-on proficiency with core programming languages (e.g., C, C++, Python, or Java) Demonstrated experience applying AI/ML concepts or tools to solve practical problems (via academic coursework, internships, or substantial personal projects) Familiarity with data analysis and machine learning libraries/frameworks (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or OpenCV) Exposure to low-level systems, embedded platforms, firmware, or hardware-software interfacing Familiarity with software development life cycles (Agile/Scrum), modern version control (Git), and automated CI/CD practices Strong quantitative, analytical, problem-solving, and written/verbal communication skills. Pay Range: $68,400.00 - $102,600.00 Annual Incentive Compensation: In addition to base pay, Zebra offers this role the opportunity to earn a performance-based annual cash incentive, at a target equal to 5% of base pay, in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
